What is Shawangunk Ridge?

Pronounced- “Scha-WAN-gunk” or “SHON-gum” (to most locals)

  • It is a native American word that was used by the Munsee Natives which was a subtribe of the Lenape Natives to describe the mountain range that runs from the Delaware River (City of Port Jervis) to the Hudson River area near Kingston , NY.

  • It is the southern most mountain range before entering the geological region known as the famous Catskill Mountains.

  • Shawangunk Ridge Outfitters (SRO) headquarters are located on the Shawangunk Mountain Range, the range is comprised of a multitude of diverse lands that offers everything the outdoor enthusiast could need.

  • We are the “Gateway” to the Catskill Mountains

  • Fully guided hiking adventure that helps you explore and learn about the great outdoors.

  • In addition to guided hiking, we offer the option of having a fully guided camping trip so that the hard work is done for you. That way you have more time to explore and learn about your environment; and ultimately get a joyful experience being outdoors.

  • Fully Guided hunting trips where safety is always the priority. Offered as both Bow Hunting and Rifle Hunting (season permitting).

    Also- Fishing trips where you get to learn about the diverse marine life in our waters and (hopefully) catch that monster Bass!

  • Kayaking, Canoes, and Paddleboard trips are available. Get out onto beautiful lakes or rivers and experience the beautiful sights and sounds of nature.
